ASSESSMENT

Using nationally and internationally approved measures, I can formally assess your mental health and wellbeing. This is usually by way of short questionnaires that help us to verify any mental health difficulties you are experiencing. This can be a useful starting point because it will give us a baseline measure of where you are at now, with a view to seeing how this might change in the future. I will ask lots of questions and listen to your answers, then I will tentatively explore with you your past, in as much or as little detail as is comfortable for you.

In addition, it can sometimes be helpful to formally assess your personality style and/or cognitive functioning (although there is an extra cost for these). These specialist tests are available to only those psychologists, including myself, who have received the correct level of training and are familiar with interpreting their results.

Following formal assessment, we can discuss how things from your past and how your personality and the way you process information, might impact on you today. What you would like to change in your life will also be discussed, but in terms of goal setting and what you would like to realistically achieve.

Following assessment, you may wish to engage in psychological therapy. I cannot stress enough that it is vital that you are able to work well with any therapist you see. It may be worth phoning around to try to ‘measure up’ the likelihood of you establishing a productive and safe working relationship with several therapists so that you can survey and chose the best fit for you.
